How to fill in a chord box

  1. Write the chord's name on the line above the box.
  2. Draw a dot where each finger presses, and write the finger number in it: 1 index, 2 middle, 3 ring, 4 pinky.
  3. Above the box, mark ○ for a string played open and × for a string you leave out.
  4. For a barre, draw one bar across the strings the finger covers.

Need the chords themselves? The printable chord chart has them filled in, and the chord finder shows every way to play any chord.

Questions

How do I print a blank guitar chord chart?

Choose the layout above and press Print. Your browser opens its print window, where you can print the sheet or save it as a PDF. The ready-made PDFs below print the same way from any PDF viewer.

Which layout should I use?

12 boxes suit a song or a lesson; 20 or 30 fit a whole chord library on one page; 6 boxes with tab give room to write a riff under each chord. Leave out the nut for chords played higher up the neck, and write the starting fret on the short line.

Is there a left-handed blank chord chart?

Yes. Tick Left-handed and the string names run E B G D A E, the way a left-handed player sees the neck.

What paper sizes are there?

US Letter and A4, each drawn for its own page size rather than scaled.
